by Destination Elopement Videographer, Tyler Booth
This was the first destination wedding video that I ever shot. This is also the only true elopement that I’ve ever shot. Meaning it was only me, the photographer, the couple, and the officiant present during the ceremony. There’s definitely something special about running away and getting married. This day had such a laid back and mysterious feel to it. Madonna and Dennis decided they needed their time in Alaska heavily documented, so along I went on a plane to join them.
The allure of elopements is the spontaneity of it all. You never know what may happen. For this elopement we boarded a bush plane and flew from Anchorage to a lakeside setting, not really knowing what we may find along the way. The pilot flew us over miles of pine forests, close to beautiful mountain ranges, and over glaciers until we finally landed on Beluga Lake. When we returned to Anchorage we found another location in the mountains that was just as wonderful as the first. Due to the nature of the lighting in Alaska during the summer, we were able to shoot until 11pm with a constant eerily beautiful twilight.
This was all as new to the couple as it was to me – I’m glad I was able to document this experience in such a way that photography can not. The movement, the sounds, the words spoken during the ceremony. It all comes together in a beautiful manner with films. I’ll never forget my time in Alaska, and I’ll always be thankful to Madonna and Dennis for inviting me along for the ride.
